In his defense the designer said that the shoes were inspired by the “My Pet Monster” children’s toy. Adidas released a statement stating that the shoe was in no way inspired by slavery. The huge amount of backlash has led Adidas to cancel production and all plans of releasing the shoes. It’s a shame because without the shackles those sneakers actually look good.
