Thoughts On 2Pac’s Coachella Performance

Shock, love, and a bit of fear were the first thoughts that came to my mind when I watched this video of 2Pac’s hologram performance at Coachella last night.

When I first heard that during Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s set there would be a hologram performance from the late, great Tupac Shakur, I envisioned a screen producing lasers a lá Minority Report but nothing like this. I was shocked at the realism often doubting that it was just a video and that the organizers of the festivals had Anthony Mackie record himself but that vanished when Snoop Dogg was standing side by side with the image. I wouldn’t say that 2Pac is my favorite rapper (I’m a Brooklyn boy), but seeing this hologram also gave me hope of more performances in the future.

Will I get to see Notorious B.I.G. perform on tour? Will Drake do a collaboration tour with Aaliyah? Can we get Kurt Cobain to do another Unplugged? I hope some of these questions are in the process of being answered so that it truly will mean legacies never die.
